About Me

Hello! My name is Orry Walter. I am the elementary general music and chorus teacher at PVASD, covering Penns Valley Elementary, Penns Valley Intermediate, Centre Hall-Potter Elementary, and Miles Township Elementary schools. Growing up, I attended Midd-West School District. I later attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey to attain my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a PreK-12 certification. I am very excited to be a part of the Penns Valley family, and I look forward to making beautiful music with our students!

General music and chorus at PVASD is focused on providing a quality music education for all students through means of lecture, exploration, instrumental studies, creation, and performance.

Classroom Expectations

In my classroom all students are expected to participate. Music is an imperfect art form that is based off of personal expression and emotion. Never will I expect any of my students to be perfect. I will push them to participate and give their very best effort at all times, though.

In the music classroom, Kindergarten through Fourth Grade uses a competitive reward system, The Golden Note. This system takes into account classroom behaviors and participation in each grade level, and at the end of the week, the class in each K-4 grade level that had the best behavior and participation record will receive The Golden Note to display in their classroom for the next week.

Behavior is gauged on how many letters are lost in class. The word "MUSIC" is displayed on the board in the beginning of class. As the class gets too rowdy or disregards rules, letters are taken away. If all five letters are lost, the rest of the class period is used for retraining of classroom expectations and rules.

Homework

There will hardly ever be any homework that is handed in. Only on the most rare of occasions will something need to be completed for credit or attendance (mostly paper and pencil work for Flexible Instruction Days).

Some classes are encouraged to send videos after school hours of music practice at home. If a video is submitted, students will receive a reward. This is only offered to Fifth and Sixth Grade classes, and there are more detailed parameters set within the music classroom.
